Thank you for your response. I encourage you to utilize this incredible platform to publish something of your own, something that counterbalances the exclusive rhetoric you seem to continue to find here. I encourage you to tell an audience what you think “blacks” should do in order to repair the damage this country has done to its people. I encourage you to explain in detail how we ought to “help ourselves,” by sharing how you have helped yourself. I would love to read that story. But it seems in your search of truth, you have neglected to consider that a counter-argument to your perceived innocence could bear truth—however uncomfortable—to many who read it, regardless of race. What if this article is not intended to exclusively blame white people, but to call for their equal action in fighting for equal rights? What fight would there be if those who benefit from inequality were willing to stand up alongside us? I encourage you to tell me your side, to write the article you wish to read. I would read it, too. But please bear in mind that I, as the author of this piece, am not writing from a place of entitlement, but as someone who has dedicated her life and time to listening, seeking to understand, questioning and calling out my own biases, and educating myself in my own role in the inequalities within our society. And from that place, I am not casting blame, I am asking for your consideration that your truth, your reality, is not the only one, and that were you to lay down your defenses, you might find this call to action as an opportunity to show your strength. If you have any questions on my perspective, please read my article “I’m a White Supremacist and So are You.” Thank you again, and I look forward to reading your work, if ever you choose to use this platform to elevate your own story instead of attempting to devalue others’.
